Earlier this year, we attended AHR Expo, where we had the opportunity to network with industry leaders and visit our valued vendors. What is a VFD Bypass?

In the event of a VFD malfunction, maintenance, or an emergency like a power outage, the bypass function ensures uninterrupted motor operation. A bypass creates an alternate path for power to flow directly to the motor, bypassing the VFD and minimizing downtime.

Traditionally, a manual switch or contactor was used to activate the VFD bypass. However, modern systems incorporate electronic bypass options. These systems use a control signal to trigger the bypass mechanism, providing a more automated and efficient solution

Introducing OptiPass

Invertek's OptiPass is an energy-efficient VFD bypass control solution for HVAC applications. Designed with a traditional bypass and an optional electronic bypass, it provides full VFD control without the need for manual bypass switching.

Typically, airflow to fans and blowers is restricted using inlet and outlet dampers. However, by controlling the fan speed using OptiPass, the motor's speed adjusts based on demand, optimizing airflow and improving energy efficiency.

OptiPass simplifies installation with its user-friendly features:

• Built-in Connectivity: OptiPass is equipped with both BACnet MS/TP and Modbus RTU for seamless integration into building management systems.
• Intuitive Interface: The built-in keypad and TFT text display provide a user-friendly interface for easy configuration and monitoring.

• Optistick Smart: This accessory enables easy parameter copying, backup, and restoration. It also provides a Bluetooth interface for convenient communication with a PC using OptiTool Studio or OptiTools Mobil app.
• PC Connection Kit: This kit allows for direct connection from a PC to the OptiPass via a USB port.
• Plug-in Options: Enhance functionality with optional plug-in modules for additional digital inputs, relay outputs, and cascade control for damper integration.
